DK Wars 'Salt Creek' went down on Sunday 4.21.2013 - Bud Miyamoto and Chris Taloa were the event organizers and they did an awesome job.  These guys were able to pull 3 new boards, Custom X T-shirts, leashes, and even a Vector Fin set-up for the winners. All of the participants also received an event t-shirt courtesy of Coastal Playground.  We're so stoked to be part of this event and encourage all you young guns out there to get out to the next war and show everyone what you can do.  We have a feeling this is only going to get bigger, better, and more organized over time, so be out in front of pack and support DK Wars.  After all, entry is less than $20's and you have a chance at some crazy prizes.  No heats, no judges, no BS, just all the participants voting for who they think ripped the hardest or pulled off the best trick.

1st place: Bud Miyamoto

2nd place: Trevor Solberg

3rd place: Jeff Vasko

Thank you again to ALL of the sponsors that made this happen!

HUMPDAY MOTIVATION // CONSCIOUS CONSUMERISM - 4.24.13

This was one of the very first Coastal Playground Blog Posts and it still rings true today.  This one simple phrase motivated us to create one of the most transparent and community based business around today.  We hope this motivates you as much as it did all of us.  Enjoy.

Conscious Consumerism

Though capitalism appears to be the root cause of many of the world’s problems, it also supplies populations with the tools needed to resolve them: power. Power of the people, that is. With such an emphasis on consumerism, corporations inevitably find themselves dependent on the consumers themselves. It is because of their capacity to manipulate populations into herd mentalities that they have been able to control the thoughts of the masses. If the consumers themselves become aware of these tools of manipulation, they can reclaim that power and force Big Business to listen to their wants and needs. Conscious consumerism is what is required to overcome the status quo.

HUMPDAY MOTIVATION // Persistence // 4.10.13

Keeping it simple this week, just a couple quotes from a man that defines the word persistence.  When bootstrapping a business you really begin to realize the struggles some of these people must have encountered and the determination they had to have to overcome obstacle after obstacle.  But, look at him now, a legend that is studied, quoted, and is an inspiration to inventors all over the world. People to this day are still baffled at some of his ideas.  And, they called him 'crazy'...

"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." - Thomas A. Edison

"Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time." - Thomas A. Edison

HUMPDAY MOTIVATION // The Buffalo Story // 4.3.13

I just heard an awesome story by the Author of "No More Procrastination" Rory Vader, and wanted to share this quick thought with you. Hope you enjoy.

The Buffalo and Cow Story:

There is something to be learned from the way two different animals approach obstacles in their lives and here is a great example of that. In the State Colorado a storm usually rolls in from west to the east over the Rockies. A Cow will see this storm coming, get scared, and turn east to run away from it. Unfortunately, Cows not being the brightest creatures in the animal kingdom actually end up running along with the storm prolonging their exposure to the elements. A Buffalo on the other hand, will see this same storm coming over the Rockies and charge towards it. By the Buffalo doing this they end up running right through the storm as it passes and shorten their exposure.

As humans, often times our attitude tends to be more like the cows and we find ourselves avoiding difficult situations/obstacles in our lives because they are “hard” or look “scary”. But, like the Cow we end up just prolonging these issues, it’s a viscous cycle. Much like the Buffalo once we decide to charge at these problems head on, we will find that we actually end up spending less time in the rain and more time enjoying the sun.
