This past Saturday thousands of people from all over California made their way to the coast for CA Coastal Cleanup Day. It was the perfect day for a cleanup, clear skies, sun was shining, & everyone was geared up and ready to tackle some pollution. Coastal Playground’s cleanup site was located off Magnolia & PCH near tower #8, we were partnered up with State Parks to clean about a mile stretch of Huntington Beach. Organizers and 50/50® Partner Orange County Coastkeeper had 3 locations in total spanning about a 3 miles of Huntington State Beach. We also had the Wyland educational center, food trucks, activities for the kids, and so much more. To say we had a good day would be a HUGE understatement.

As for the beach cleanup results, well, we had over 600 volunteers in attendance at our site alone. After just 3 hours of combing the beach our hardworking volunteers removed a whopping 300lbs of trash!! That brings our project total to 12,014lbs of trash removed from our beautiful coastlines, yew!!! It is so awesome to see everyone coming together to protect what we love so much. It’s days like this past Saturday that give me faith we are headed in the right direction, and that if we work together we can ensure our playground is around for future generations to enjoy.

Special thanks to Julia Williams from Orange County Coastkeeper for all of her hard work, and to Compas Clothing & Get Wise Fool, for cruising out to lending us a hand. The future is looking bright and we’re so stoked to see our little project grow.
